Boxted: a Suffolk hamlet beside Hartest
Boxted is a hamlet in the Suffolk countryside adjoining Hartest. The two communities have longstanding connections: Holy Trinity at Boxted and the church at Hartest belong to the parish of Hartest cum Boxted, while their shared village hall stands on Hartest's green.
Hartest provides a useful focus for everyday life. Its parish council identifies a primary school, doctor's surgery, pub, butcher and village institute around the village. These are facilities in neighbouring Hartest, rather than a high street within Boxted itself. Hartest lies on the B1066 between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, placing Boxted in that part of rural Suffolk.
Holy Trinity stands on Braggon's Hill, with an old churchyard that helps give Boxted its distinct identity. The Boxted and Hartest Institute began as a reading room in 1888 and is now a hall available for community use. For a home here, compare the actual journey to Hartest's facilities and to the larger towns; the hamlet and the neighbouring village offer different settings.
