Burghill: a farming hamlet in the Brechin area

Burghill is a small hamlet in Angus, associated with the farming landscape around Brechin. Its historic farmstead is a more useful guide to its character than a description of a self-contained village with shops. The Angus Historic Environment Record places Burghill Farm in Brechin parish and records a farmhouse, courtyard steading and the remains of a mill dam and sluice.

The name also has a much older history. Research by the University of St Andrews links Burghill with the medieval parish of Buttergill, later absorbed into Brechin. The former church's precise site is uncertain, so that history should not be mistaken for a surviving visitor attraction in the hamlet.

A home search here is a search in the Brechin countryside. Compare the location of each property with the services you use in Brechin and with the road approach to the house. The farmstead's heritage record provides useful background to the local buildings, while the scale and layout of an individual property will determine its outlook and practical access.
