Girton: a Trent-side village in Newark and Sherwood

Girton is a small village in Nottinghamshire's Newark and Sherwood district, in the Trent valley near Collingham. St Cecilia's Church stands on High Street. Historic England records medieval fabric in the building and a substantial rebuilding in 1879; the church's small scale, stone walls and bellcote are distinctive features of the village.

The river setting is an important practical consideration as well as part of the landscape. In January 2024, Newark and Sherwood District Council reported that flooding during Storm Henk had cut road access to Girton and that help was being delivered by boat. That is a documented past event, not a statement about every property's current flood risk.

When considering a home, check its individual flood information and the routes you would depend on for work, school and shopping. St Cecilia's architectural history provides a useful introduction to the village, while the district council's local information is the appropriate source for planning and services in this part of Nottinghamshire.
